Non-Alcoholic Beverage Manufacturing in Malaysia Markets: An Overview 2020

Non-alcoholic beverage market share contributes approximately 65% out of the beverage industry. Non-alcoholic beverage that consists of soft drinks and bottled water, the domestic sales in Malaysia is estimated to grow by 2.0% on year-on-year basis from 2020 to 2023 projecting total ex-factory sales of RM 3.4 billion in 2023. Total export volume for non-alcoholic drinks declined by 17% in 2019 to 774,000 tonnes with Singapore being the top exporting destination; however, total import volume increased by 1.3% to 74,000 tonnes with Thailand being main importer for soft drink and France for bottled water.

In Malaysia, imports of cocoa beans represent 6.3% of world imports and was ranked fifth in world imports. Malaysia imported large volume of cocoa beans as the country does not produce much cocoa but is considered a large export in cocoa and chocolate products.

Malaysia imported cocoa beans from 25 countries in 2016. The import of cocoa beans has shown decline in 2015 and 2016 in terms of the volume and value imported. This is corresponding to the decline in cocoa grindings. As mentioned earlier, cocoa grinders reduced output in hopes that prices would improve.

88% of the Processed Meat total gross outpout were contributed by processed poultry and poultry products in 2015. Processed poultry and poultry products generated RM 4.7 billion in 2015. It is estimated to continue growing at a high CAGR of 21.68% and reach RM 12.6 billion in 2020.

Singapore was the biggest export destination for Malaysian chicken, with a share of 33% or USD 4.1 million. Malaysian frozen chicken were all exported to Singapore. Besides that, 26% of fresh/chilled chicken exports were to Singapore as well.
